Hello Space Questers!
I just wanted to share SQN visitor's log with you. The amount of visitors almost DOUBLED from 6895 in February to 11454 in March.
Personally, I think the re-opening of SpaceQuest.Net's message board, the Janitorial Times, certainly has something to do with it. Even though it's not the most visited forum on the internet (we wouldn't even want that, by the way!), a lot of people apparently drop by to read our discussions.
I think it's safe to say the first month of the new Janitorial Times has been a HUGE success. If you like to talk about Space Quest,
need any help with the games or if you just want to talk about every day life (meeting people with similar interest along the way) then do drop by!
PS: Check out this cool new interview with Space Quest 6 designer Josh Mandel.

Hello Space Questers,
Long-time Space Quest fans (and personal friends) Alistair Gillett and Danny Bloks have been bugging me these past few days to reopen the Janitorial Times (SpaceQuest.Net's popular message board) under their management.
I've had enough of their whining :P so as of today, that request has been granted.
They're still working around the clock to sort out the last few details, but it is already open and fully functional. So start posting if you would like to discuss Space Quest, need any hints & tips or technical assistance.
It's a cool place to meet other fans; there's an off-topic board to meet new friends as well.
I'll be sure to drop by once in a while, for old times sake, but let me assure you Alistair and Danny are well up to the job of moderating a message board. They have my full confidence. The link should sound familiar to you all. It's http://forum.spacequest.net

Hello Space Questers,
You've undoubtedly noticed the lack of updates. I never thought I would be writing this, but it's true. I have moved on to other things. It became clear in the summer of 2006 that I wasn't going to be able to continue updating the website like you learned to expect from me. I mean, I was on the doorstep of attending an university. An university! It might not mean much to you, but for me it's a benchmark. I guess the cliches are true: You can do everything you set your mind to. Anyway, I knew I was going to get busy as I'm doing literally twice the work of a normal student here at Staffordshire University. There just aren't enough hours in a day to update the site. I've said this before, but this time there was no escape.
What has this to do with me taking SpaceQuest.Net offline just a few days ago? Well, to me, an outdated website is as useful as diet Coke and as you might have guessed, webhosting isn't free. My best Space Quest friend "Spikey" decided to take a plunge for better things, like wet sponges and a petty marriage engagement. I always envisioned me as the last standing Space Quest webmaster. And the old news started repeating itself: All quiet on the Western Front. But I don't think the lack of news had something to do with it. Maybe a bit of everything and a bit too much. And it has not all that much to do with "what happened". Some of you might have heard the story. Some of you might have not. It doesn't really matter now anyway. What has done has been done and it's a thing of the past.
I just had a chat with Space Quest 7's team leader and although we started talking about personal stuff and about Space Quest 7 - between you and me: I'm looking forward playing a game that should have been officially released 8 (!) years ago -, I knew he contacted me to ask me what's up with SpaceQuest.Net (since I quite literally pulled the plug). I told him I was done and that it's time to move on. Colin then explained it is hard to argue that Space Quest is an important game to people, and his team puts out Space Quest 7 and then have SpaceQuest.Net go to a Domain Parked page. It is after all, he said, the most important Space Quest website on the internet... And when SQ7 gets out and new people start coming in, we must give them something, right?
So yes, it's true. We can be quite sure there won't be another update on SpaceQuest.Net. I'm not sure if that's such a sad thing, as this website contains everything about the games anyway. Still, it fills me with grief that I must write this to you. For I've seen more Space Quest fan sites getting closed down than Bill Gates has dollars. And I never believed mine would be one of them.
Thanks for your support. It has been a hell of a ride. I've had a lot of fun but it's time to move on.
Frans
